Rafael
Spiritual Healing Center Offers Support for Denver's
Grief and Illness Stricken
Jewish Family Service of Colorado Launches Healing
Center for Support and Strength in Times of Crisis.
DENVER - March 15, 2005 - Jewish Family Service of
Colorado (JFS), a Denver-based nonprofit organization,
today launched the Rafael Spiritual Healing Center, a
program that provides support, strength and community
for people who have experienced a life crisis, such as
death, grief, illness or emotional trauma. The
program, which integrates Jewish traditions and
rituals into the learning and healing process, is now
open for enrollment to anyone in the Denver community.
"People who have suffered a loss in their lives have
numerous options, both positive and negative, to deal
with grief," said Yana Vishnitsky, chief executive
officer of JFS. "The Rafael Spiritual Healing Center
provides a positive, spiritual means of healing, and a
support system that includes a spiritual leader,
psychologist and other individuals who are dealing
with a similar loss. Anyone dealing with grief can
benefit from the program."
Jewish Community Chaplain Rabbi Eliot Baskin and
Jewish Family Service Psychologist Dr. Laura Hockman
are co-facilitators of the Rafael Spiritual Healing
Center, and will work in tandem to provide the
spiritual and psychological components of the healing
program. Initially, the healing program will offer
spiritual support groups and counseling, and will
later expand to include a full resource center of
books, tapes, pamphlets and other materials focused on
dealing with grief. This program is made possible
through a grant from Rose Community Foundation.
The Rafael Spiritual Healing Center is offering group
sessions, consisting of eight consecutive meetings,
beginning in late March. The cost of the program is
$10 per session and meeting times will be based on
participant availability. Individual support services
are also available. To enroll in the program or for
more information, please contact Jewish Family Service
of Colorado at 303-597-5000 or visit
www.jewishfamilyservice.org.
