DENVER
- June 24, 2005 - Jewish Family Service of Colorado (JFS),
a human service agency serving greater Denver, is now
offering enrollment for two
Rafael
Spiritual Healing Center support groups. The
first, a bereavement group, will help those dealing
with the death of a loved one. The second, a chronic
illness group, will offer support and strength for
those who are dealing with chronic illness. Both
groups are now open for enrollment to anyone in the
Denver community.
Jewish Family Service Psychologist Dr. Laura Hockman
will work in tandem with a Jewish rabbi to facilitate
the groups and provide spiritual and psychological
healing. Rafael Spiritual Healing Center support
groups integrate Jewish traditions and rituals into
the healing and learning process.
"Living with a chronic illness is a great emotional
challenge, and losing a loved one can be devastating.
Nobody should have to go through these circumstances
alone," said Yana Vishnitsky, chief executive officer
of JFS. "The support groups combine traditional Jewish
practices with a modern approach to provide a sense of
comfort and peace for people dealing with these
challenges."
The bereavement group will begin meeting by the end of
June and the chronic illness group will commence by
the end of July. Both groups will consist of eight
consecutive meetings, and the cost is $10 per session.
Specific meeting times are based on participant
availability, and will be finalized as groups are
filled. To enroll in either group, or for more
information, please contact Dr. Laura Hockman at
Jewish Family Service of Colorado at 303-597-7777 x346
or visit www.jewishfamilyservice.org.
The Rafael Spiritual Healing Center was created to
provide support, strength and community for people who
have experienced a life crisis, such as grief, illness
or care giving. The program is made possible through a
grant from Rose Community Foundation.
